This theoretical and exploratory article aims to investigate which contributions can be learned from the analysis of the development process of the Zankovian System. For this, we structured the development of the work in three topics. On the first topic, we present, based on the Cultural-Historical Theory, elements for understanding what we mean by theoretical-experimental method and research. On the second, we make a brief exposition of some significant aspects of Russian history that were relevant to the development of Russian education and the Zankovian System after the Russian Revolution. On the third, we briefly discuss the development, characteristics and foundations of the Zankovian System. It is concluded that the Zankovian System was humanistic, emphasizing on the development of children's potential, improving their conditions of thinking and learning; it had an individualized look at human development; walked the path of science; and obtained results that were considered very satisfactory for the country in overcoming its difficulties.
