Abstract
Thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms present a unique challenge to cardiovascular surgery and anesthesia teams. Techniques to manage extensive blood loss, end-organ ischemia, and prevent spinal cord ischemia have been well described but may not be available in all hospitals. Centralization of thoracoabdominal aortic surgery is a well-accepted and recommended practice; however, it may not be feasible in all regions. This report presents the case of a patient with a 15 cm diameter extent III thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm and describes the novel techniques used to manage this complex surgery in a low-resource setting.
